STEAM

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) is a core tenet of programming here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing and foundational to preparing Club members for college and the workforce. The inclusion of Arts in STEM, thus creating STEAM, presents a more holistic approach to learning and problem-solving by promoting different modes of critical thinking and engagement through visual arts, design, and storytelling.

IMPRESSION 5

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing have an incredibly valuable collaborative relationship with Impression 5 Science Center based on our shared value of making hands-on scientific exploration accessible to children of all backgrounds. During the school year, a staff from Impression 5 leads a weekly on-site STEAM activity, such as creating kaleidoscopes or dissecting owl pellets, separated by age group (7-12 and Teens). During the summer, small groups of Club members go on weekly field trips to Impression 5 where they get to experience the hands-on exhibits and participate in additional programming in the Impression 5 makers space.
