After a very busy end of the school year with high school graduations, award nights, and the annual "Scramble for Youth" Golf Outing, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing is ready for an awesome summer!

Last Friday, staff from all sites came together at the Mooney Center for summer orientation and training. It was very exciting seeing all the new faces joining us for the summer! We were very fortunate to host a representative from Resolutions Services Center of Central Michigan to lead a training on de-escalation strategies to better support our Club members during conflicts. All staff were then treated to lunch from Buffalo Wild Wings and some fun at Dave & Buster's to kick the summer off right!

Also new this summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing has officially grown from two sites to three with an extension site opening at Waverly Park Apartments in partnership with Lansing Housing Commission. We are elated to continue this initiative to expand throughout the Greater Lansing community and bring Club programming where Lansing youth live, thereby reducing cost and transportation barriers that impact access to quality youth programming.

  • The Waverly Park site, also known as the Westside site, will be open 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday for ages 7-12.

  • The Northside site at Hildebrandt Park Apartments is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm for ages 7-12.

  • The Mooney Center in South Lansing is open 8am to 3pm Monday through Friday for ages 7-17.

All three Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing sites are Meet Up and Eat Up sites as part of Michigan's Summer Meals program. All youth ages 18 and under are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at these sites. Breakfast is served from 9am to 10am and lunch is served from 12pm to 1pm. Since so many kids depend on school meals to keep their bellies full, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing are proud to participate in this program to keep kids well fed and energized for all kinds of summer adventures and activities.

The Clubs already have so many fun activities planned for the summer -- water days, gardening, field trips to Impression 5 and the movies, coloring contests, talent shows,

cooking classes, the much-anticipated End of Summer Carnival on Friday, August 14th, and so much more! If you know some kids in need of something to do this summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing will definitely keep them busy!
